Health care professional responsible for real time data collection and intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) of a patient’s nervous system throughout surgery. In addition, he/she must establish and maintain open cooperation and communication with the surgical team, which includes interaction with the surgeon. Additional responsibilities include pre-operative patient assessments and post- operative billing uploads.
Consult with surgeon regarding structures at risk and modalities to be monitored.
Interact with patient, when applicable, to obtain a detailed history and clearly explain the neurophysiological tests to be performed.
Accurate placement of stimulating and recording electrodes using the 10-20 system of electrode placement.
Display and label waveforms for marking, measuring and calculating information such as latencies, amplitudes and conduction times following established guidelines and protocols.
Identify appropriate protocol and perform troubleshooting techniques to assure accurate data collection.
Communicate with the surgeon and surgical team throughout the case to relay monitoring information.
Complete all required documentation and accurately prepare all IONM logs, files and uploads.
Maintain equipment in proper working order and conduct required maintenance checks.
Deliver services according to Company procedures/standards.
Basic knowledge and understanding of the following:
The surgical procedure being performed including blood pressure and other physiologic factors.
The anatomy of monitored pathways, including source of blood supply and electrode derivations and generators of EP components.
Pre-operative deficits, intraoperative injuries and possible post-operative outcomes.
Principles of modern anesthetic techniques.
The operating room environment.
Electrical safety issues and the effects of other equipment on the quality of the intraoperative monitoring.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted: lift heavier loads with assistance.
Lift supplies and place equipment on supports.
Job involves daily bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping.
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time -- regularly for 6-8 hours at a time and occasionally for 12-16 hours with very infrequent breaks.
Visual and auditory skills.
Wear gloves, masks, gowns and goggles for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
Time management and organizational skills.
Attains and maintains competency in all phases of IONM and maintains high-quality performance in accordance with Joint Commission and IONM standards.
Ability to participate in hospital in-service programs, professional meetings and seminars.
Continually advance skill set by reading books, professional journal articles and online training materials.
Analytical skills and systematic work habits necessary in order to provide quality IONM.
Participate in research opportunities.
Call rotation may be required dependent on geographical territory.
Ability to adapt to change in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
Ability to handle the demands of regular travel required for the market.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others in order to interact with surgical team and NCS team.
Ability to maintain professional and positive relationships with surgeons/hospitals.
Proactively check/maintain a schedule on a daily basis.
Must have current BLS CPR certification and immunizations (or willingness to procure).
Bachelor’s Degree or CNIM eligible.
Degree in clinically related field strongly preferred.
CNIM Certified or CNIM eligible with relevant clinical experience.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
CNIM Certified. Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
Handle the clinical demands/needs of the territory and the education requirements of those demands.
Facilitate and participate in training.

24 month Travel Contract
Firm role commitment during months 1-12 – Emerging Markets Long-Term Travel Shareowner must remain in contracted role. Permanent relocation into a market is not possible, unless extenuating circumstances are present (i.e. Shareowner is offered and agrees to permanently relocate to a market which is severely understaffed and/or difficult to staff).
Flexible role commitment during months 13-24 – Emerging Markets Long-Term Travel Shareowner will remain in contracted role. Permanent relocation into a market is possible if a position within the organization is offered and accepted by the Shareowner, and transition of the Shareowner into said position works for all impacted by the Shareowner’s permanent relocation (i.e. Shareowner is offered and accepts a permanent role in a service market with an open hire req, and Emerging Markets can logistically afford to lose the Shareowner without disrupting present and future market support needs).
*Note: Long-Term Travel Shareowner will be expected to complete full extent of travel contract. Permanent assignment in the course of a long-term travel contract is not guaranteed.
