Job Description

Summary Statement:

Oversees billing operations to maximize effectiveness and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the coordination of all functions of the Insurance Billing Department

  2. Manages and evaluates billing personnel including approval to time and expense, overtime and scheduled time off, as well as annual performance reviews and disciplinary action as needed

  3. Works in conjunction with organization management regarding billing issues. 

  4. Hire, train, schedule and delegate responsibilities to collection staff.

  5. Process, maintain, and rectify accounts/records in a timely manner.

  6. Assists in the development, implementation, and completion of projects

  7. Produces reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and as needed basis.

  8. Participate in the company management process as the Manager of Insurance Billing

  9. Consults with the Leader, Billing and Collections regarding any billing problems

  10. Coordinates all billing and prepares the same for submission to the appropriate insurance payer

  11. Imports electronic ASCII charge files into the billing system

  12. Review claims for appropriate quantities, coding, charges, and rates as well as compliance to contractual obligations 

  13. Transmit and/or send claims to the appropriate insurance payer

  14. Follow up on and complete tasks on pending accounts until accounts are rectified.

  15. Obtain needed and or corrected information by contacting the patient, physician's office, hospital, next of kin, insurance carrier, etc.

  16. Able to work independently, multi-task, and motivate others

  17. Knowledge of computer and medical billing systems

  18. Able to function as a polite and cooperative team member with a positive attitude

  19. Must be detailed oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision

  20. Able to maintain confidentiality


Additional Responsibilities/Requirements:

Perform duties in compliance with applicable FDA and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to, ISO 13485.

Nature and Scope:

Completes specialized tasks that frequently require the exchange of detailed technical or sensitive information; establishes protocols and procedures.

Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.

Applies expertise as a specialist.

Uses judgment to identify when deviation from standard practice is required.

Works independently guided by short-term objectives; work requires evaluation and discretion within defined standards.

Provides guidance and serves as a technical resource to others.

Basic Qualifications

Requires a high school degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of 8+ years of related experience with 3 years supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred

Insurance Collections Experience within Medical industry.

Effective verbal and written communication skills
