Job Description

Our NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics team focuses on orthopedic trauma and deformity within all long bones and foot and ankle.  You’ll also be part of a larger team that focuses on implants for the spine.  As our Project Engineer, you’ll work on new product development, utilizing your knowledge of mechanisms, engineering practices, mathematics, materials science, and other physical sciences to create implants and instrument systems designed for use or complex orthopedic surgeries.  You’d be responsible for execution of all phases of product development as designs are created through the release of specifications, drawings, test protocols and reports and other documentation. This includes creating project timelines and delivering on project milestones.  

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain active project schedules by interfacing with cross functional team members in completion of specialized orthopedic implant and instrument projects of pre-defined scope
  • Perform mechanical design of components and assemblies including model and print generation
  • Collaborate with internal and external metal fabricators to produce medical devices including implants, instrumentation, and tooling and fixtures based upon Shareowner’s designs/concepts
  • Delegate relevant project tasks to interdepartmental and cross functional team members
  • Accountable for the creation of protocols, execution of testing and report generation
  • Responsible for completion of design controls per internal standard operating procedures
  • Manage work deliverables within accelerated timelines
  • Perform duties in compliance with applicable FDA and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to, ISO 13485
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineer, or equivalent
  • 5+ years related experience
  • Strong proficiency with proof-of-concept prototyping, iteration, and device testing and be able to communicate design ideas using concept sketches or CAD renderings
  • Heavy CAD experience, preferably Pro/E, Creo or SolidWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with a strong ability to write business reports and correspondence as well as the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and management of organization
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, protocols/test scripts, and test reports
  • Proficiency and knowledge in applying concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, geometric tolerances, and tolerance analysis in addition to ability to solve and interpret problems and collect data
  • Ability/willingness to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in complex mechanical design in a regulated field with a strong preference for orthopedic experience
