Job Description

NuVasive is seeking an experienced Mechanical or Biomedical Engineer for our interbody implants development team, specializing in the Advanced Material Science (AMS) platform.  Our team is part of a larger mechanical engineering group that team utilizes extensive knowledge of mechanisms, engineering practices, mathematics, material science, and other physical sciences to create implant and instrument systems designed for use in the operating room.

As a team member, you’ll gain hands on experience to devise innovative mechanical product solutions to meet surgeon needs and design specifications, from concept to commercialization.  Team members will often interact with other cross functional teams, including marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, regulatory, quality, research and testing, and machine shop, to ensure designs comply with applicable regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create and support the development of prototypes and processes using in-house or external resources
  • Define, create, and maintain design control documentation in compliance with FDA regulations and internal procedures
  • Interact with internal and external teams; including manufacturers, raw material suppliers, and testing facilities to solve technical issues/challenges and ensure on time delivery of services and product
  • Support new product launches by attending surgical cases and cadaver labs

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in the orthopedic medical device field
  • Hands-on experience in translating functional requirements into mechanical solutions
  • Strong CAD development experience, preferably Pro/E, Creo or SolidWorks, Ability to understand and apply GD&T
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, process qualification, and design for manufacturing
  • Effective communication skills with strong confidence to present before groups of customers, vendors, peers, and leadership
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with a strong ability to write reports and correspondence
  • Proficient in developing test plans, test methods, protocols/test scripts, and test reports
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical device experience, spine preferred
  • Previous manufacturing experience in plastic or metal machining
